Spirit Of Inati

π WHAT IS INATI?
In Tokelau, there is a tradition known as Inati.
When the fishermen return from the ocean, they bring their boats close to shore and call out:
π£ TAMAITI, KINA INATI
The call from the shore.
A call that lets the children know it is time to come and collect their family's share. ππ
It's a simple moment, but one that represents something much bigger β community, responsibility and sharing what the ocean has provided.
β€οΈ THE VALUES BEHIND INATI
π€² SHARING
What is caught is shared.
π‘ COMMUNITY
Every family has a place.
βοΈ FAIRNESS
The catch is divided amongst the community.
β€οΈ GENEROSITY
What the ocean provides becomes something we experience together.

Carrying Inati With Us π
While we may no longer gather on the shores of Tokelau, we carry those same values with us wherever we go.
From our islands in the Pacific to our home here in Western Sydney, the importance of family, community, sharing and tradition continues to guide us.
IKA-NEI is one way we can keep those connections alive. πβ€οΈ
π WHY INATI MATTERS TO IKA-NEI
Inati isn't simply a story we tell.
It represents values that we want to carry into everything IKA-NEI becomes β community, generosity, respect, sharing and remembering where we come from. π΄
Through our food, we hope to introduce more people to Tokelau while keeping these traditions and stories alive.
Every bag carries a little piece of our story.Β
π¨π©π§π¦ FOR THOSE WHO COME AFTER US
Our traditions were passed down to us, and we have a responsibility to continue sharing them.
For our children.
For the generations after them.
For Tokelauans growing up away from our islands.
And for anyone who wants to learn about who we are. π
IKA-NEI is our small way of helping those stories continue.
